I’m just stepping into my third trimester here in Fort Collins, and just like that, things are getting real! With my first son, Gabriel, I was learning as I went, but this time feels different. I think with your second, it’s natural to just let instincts take over instead of trying to do everything “right,” and I’m really enjoying that. Our days with Gabriel as our only child earth-side are fleeting, and I’m trying to slow down and really soak in the little moments before life shifts again. I’ve been so grateful for the mild winter weather we’ve been having. I swear, there’s something so grounding about crisp Colorado air, long walks, and letting the rhythm of our days set the pace for preparation.

With Gabriel, I had an emergency C-section after ten hours of labor. This time, I am wholeheartedly focused on having a successful VBAC. I’m connecting with the right professionals in Fort Collins, hearing stories from Northern Colorado moms who’ve walked this path, and letting their experiences fuel my confidence. It’s empowering to feel seen, supported, and understood as I prepare my body, mind, and spirit for what’s ahead.
While the physical side of birth prep is huge, for me, preparing for baby goes beyond physical readiness. I’ve been praying over this little one, reflecting on the season ahead, and trying to create a steady rhythm at home. Mental, emotional, and spiritual preparation feels just as important as arranging diapers and tiny onesies. Pausing to breathe, to pray, and to savor these last weeks of pregnancy has become my anchor.
I’ve also been indulging in the fun side of preparation. With the two being so close in age, there is nothing I don’t have to make life with a newborn as easy as possible. While I’m not stocking up on bottles and spending (too many) hours learning the ins and outs of all of the carseats on the market, picking out baby items at some of my favorite Fort Collins spots like Clothes Pony and Dandelion Toys & Sunday Supply Co. has been such a joy. At this point, it’s about curating small, meaningful pieces that will live with us for years. When the weather allows, I take long walks at Spring Canyon Park or stroll through The Gardens on Spring Creek with Gabriel. He is at such a fun age to bring out and about and the fresh air and scenery does wonders for my mental health. These moments, small as they seem, make the season feel both peaceful and purposeful.

And of course, as a photographer, maternity photos are on my mind. This time, I want to capture the mountains and crisp winter air in Estes Park, wearing a flowy dress and soft florals. With Gabriel, our photos at Lory State Park were relaxed and summery, full of sunlight and carefree laughter. This session will feel different; cooler, quieter, and more reflective. If you are looking for a Fort Collins baby photographer or a Northern Colorado maternity photographer, maternity and newborn sessions are my absolute favorites to capture. Taking the time and making the investment in photographing this time is such a meaningful way to preserve these fleeting moments.
For any Northern Colorado mama reading this, I want you to know you are not alone in this season. You are seen. You are supported. You can prepare for your baby, nurture yourself, and stay present with the little moments that matter most. It’s possible to navigate this season with calm, intention, and connection, all while enjoying the adventure along the way.
